I am a middle-aged man with no distinction of any kind living in the San Francisco Bay Area with my wife and two kids. Having studied economics in college, I started my professional career at FactSet Research Systems working with financial data, first in product development and then in technical sales implementation. Along the way, I got to call myself a CFA and learned a few things about finance and markets. Most recently I performed investment research in the asset management division of Silicon Valley Bank.
I enjoy conversations. To me, human beings are the most interesting things in this world, and getting to know them through exchanges of thoughts and ideas can be as exhilaratingly fun as anything else in life. If I could have any job, I would love to do what Charlie Rose used to do in his eponymous TV show, having conversations on a nightly basis with some of the most compelling people in the world.
I have a high sensitivity to things that I find annoying, which I’d like to think comes with some level of observational acuity. Perhaps naturally I also tend to have opinions about certain things, as well as a propensity to vocalize them. This at times has led to the perception that I like to complain. It has also led me to empathize almost completely with Larry David of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” which is my favorite TV show.
I am not very athletic, but I enjoy playing tennis with my son on Sundays. On Fridays I take piano lessons. I make regular attempts to meditate with Sam Harris’s “Waking Up” app, though am not always successful.
